FIFA World Cup Final Tickets Hit $11M in Resale Frenzy

FIFA is under fire as ticket prices for the 2026 FIFA World Cup have reached staggering heights, with resale listings for the July 19 final at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey climbing to nearly $11.5 million. The controversy intensified after FIFA raised its top “category one” seats for the final from $10,990 to $32,970 in its latest ticket release — a threefold increase that has left fans outraged globally.

Skyrocketing Prices Across the Tournament

The price surge isn’t limited to the final. Semifinal tickets at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas, are listed as high as $11,130, while seats for the Atlanta semifinal exceed $10,000. Even group-stage matches carry eye-watering costs — the US opener against Paraguay at SoFi Stadium ranges from $1,120 to $2,735, with the Turkey fixture approaching $3,000.

FIFA Defends Pricing, Lawmakers Push Back

FIFA president Gianni Infantino defended the pricing at the Milken Institute Global Conference, arguing that the US entertainment market demands premium rates and that artificially low prices would only fuel resale markups further. However, fans were quick to challenge his claim that no major US sporting event offers tickets under $300, pointing to far cheaper NBA playoff options. FIFA collects a 15% fee from both buyers and sellers on its official resale platform, despite claiming no control over listed prices.

New Jersey representatives Frank Pallone and Nellie Pou have since written to FIFA demanding transparency around dynamic pricing and accusing the organization of deliberately limiting ticket supply to manufacture urgency among buyers.
