‘Conjuring: Last Rites’ Breaks Records With $83M Opening

The Conjuring: Last Rites” has delivered a supernatural box office performance, earning a staggering $83 million during its opening weekend. This phenomenal debut marks a new franchise record, surpassing 2018’s “The Nun” which previously held the crown with $53.8 million.

The fourth installment in the main Conjuring series has achieved multiple milestones, claiming the title of 2025’s biggest horror opening and ranking as the third-largest horror debut in box office history. Only Warner Bros.’ “It” ($123 million) and “It: Chapter Two” ($91 million) have achieved higher opening weekends in the genre.

Global Success Mirrors Domestic Triumph

Internationally, the film proved equally impressive, collecting $104 million from 66 territories for a combined global launch of $187 million. This overseas performance set another record, overtaking “It: Chapter Two” for the largest international horror film debut.

Patrick Wilson and Vera Farmiga returned as paranormal investigators Ed and Lorraine Warren in what’s billed as the final chapter of their story. Despite mixed reviews, audiences flocked to theaters, driven by pent-up demand and strong franchise loyalty.

Warner Bros. Continues Hot Streak

The success extends Warner Bros.’ remarkable 2025 run, marking their seventh consecutive release to open above $40 million – an unprecedented achievement for any Hollywood studio this year. With a production budget of $55 million, the film promises substantial profit margins.

The Conjuring universe, spanning nine films including spinoffs like “Annabelle” and “The Nun,” has now become the highest-grossing horror franchise in history with $2.3 billion worldwide. This latest triumph suggests reports of the series’ conclusion may be greatly exaggerated.
