TikTok Launches New Mental Health and Well-Being Resources

TikTok is taking steps to support user mental health by introducing a comprehensive “Time and Well-Being” space within the app. This new feature combines wellness tools and activities designed to help users develop healthier relationships with the platform. The initiative reflects growing demand for mental health support integrated directly into social media applications.

Building on Success with Enhanced Wellness Tools

The new Time and Well-Being platform expands on TikTok’s guided meditation feature, which launched in May and has already reached tens of millions of users. The updated space includes an affirmational journal with over 120 customizable affirmation cards, a soothing sound generator featuring rain and wave sounds, and structured breathing exercises. These tools enable users to practice mindfulness directly within the app while building positive habits.

Gamified Wellness Through Well-Being Missions

TikTok’s four new “Well-Being Missions” gamify healthy technology use by rewarding users with badges for achieving wellness goals. Users can earn badges by maintaining sleep hours away from the app, setting and maintaining screen time limits, reviewing weekly usage reports, and inviting others to participate. A “Well-Being Ambassador Mission” encourages community engagement around wellness practices.

This initiative addresses concerns about social media’s impact on mental health, particularly for younger users. Research consistently shows that younger audiences face heightened susceptibility to mental health challenges from online engagement. By integrating wellness tools and education about healthy usage directly into TikTok, the platform aims to mitigate these risks while fostering more intentional and balanced app usage patterns. The Time and Well-Being platform is now accessible through users’ Account Settings pages.
