Harry Kane Favourite for Ballon d’Or as London Hosts Ceremony

England captain Harry Kane is the favourite to win the Ballon d’Or at a glitzy London ceremony on Monday, with Lamine Yamal and Kylian Mbappe also in contention to be named the world’s best footballer. The 70th edition of the award, created by France Football magazine, is being hosted in England for the first time, in recognition of inaugural winner Stanley Matthews. It could also produce the first English winner in 25 years.

Kane’s Record-Breaking Season

The Bayern Munich striker scored 73 goals in 65 appearances for club and country last season. He guided Bayern to a league and cup double and led England to the World Cup semi-finals. The 33-year-old has said that winning the award would be a massive milestone in his career. However, semi-final exits in both the Champions League and the World Cup mean the outcome is far from certain.

Mbappe and Yamal Stay in the Race

Mbappe’s case has been strengthened by his rise to become the all-time leading scorer in World Cup history, with 22 goals. Yamal, meanwhile, remains one of football’s brightest young talents, although an injury-hit season could count against him. With no outright standout, the contest is widely seen as wide open.

The women’s award is also set to be a closely watched affair. Alexia Putellas is aiming for a third win after Barcelona’s Champions League success, but she faces a strong challenge from Ewa Pajor.

Fans around the world will be tuning in as the winners are revealed in London later today.
