Reddit Health Summit Shows Rising Reliance on Community Medical Advice
Reddit is positioning itself as a serious destination for health information. The company held its first Health Summit in New York on Sept. 4 and this week shared key findings on how people use the platform for medical research, as well as how healthcare marketers can tap into relevant conversations.
Billions of Views and Millions of Symptom Posts
Reddit said healthcare conversations generated more than 36 billion views over the past year, and 46% of doctors in the U.S. are now active on the app. Diagnosis is a major draw: in 2025, users made 473 million posts connecting symptoms to a possible condition. According to Reddit, the appeal lies in first-hand accounts from people who have been officially diagnosed and can describe their care plans. The company argued that while search and AI can deliver quick answers, online communities help people understand what those answers mean in real life.
Reddit as a Final Check Before Action
The data suggests Reddit often serves as a last step in the decision-making process. In the U.S., 61% of health information seekers use the platform as a final check before taking action. Among women’s reproductive health audiences, seven in 10 said they felt more prepared for healthcare conversations after using Reddit. Reddit also noted that 90% of views within gender-oriented communities came from woman-oriented spaces.
The company also examined the growing discussion around GLP-1 usage. The top interest groups talking about GLP-1s were Healthy Living, Family & Relationships, Entertainment, Career Advice, Travel, and Business & Finance. Reddit said this shows how health conversations branch into many areas of daily life, and healthcare brands should keep that in mind when building outreach plans for the app.
Taken together, the latest findings underline Reddit’s growing value as a source of lived experience and crowd-sourced advice on health concerns, offering healthcare marketers a useful window into how patients research, compare and decide.
