Ronaldo Leads Messi in Ballon d’Or B.O.A.T. Fan Poll

Cristiano Ronaldo has opened up a commanding lead over long-time rival Lionel Messi in the Ballon d’Or of All Time fan poll, launched by France Football on Tuesday. The global initiative invites supporters to pick the greatest individual season in football history. Ronaldo’s 2007-08 campaign with Manchester United currently holds 62 percent of the vote, far ahead of every other entry.

Ronaldo’s Breakthrough Season Dominates

Organisers shared the standings on social media, confirming that Ronaldo has pulled clear in the inaugural B.O.A.T. (Ballon d’Or Of All Time) vote. That season at Old Trafford saw the Portuguese star score 42 goals in 49 matches. He also lifted both the Premier League and Champions League trophies and won his first Ballon d’Or. Fans appear to treat that year as the benchmark for individual excellence.

Messi Trails in Second and Third

Messi’s best showings sit well behind. His 2023 season, which ended with a World Cup triumph, is second with 10 percent. His record-setting 2012 calendar year, in which he scored 91 goals, ranks third with 7 percent. Ronaldo’s margin is therefore much wider than a simple two-way contest between the great rivals might suggest.

The poll has also drawn criticism over its paid format. Fans must pay €1 per vote and are entered into a draw for VIP passes. This has sparked debate on social media over whether the digital leaderboard reflects genuine fan opinion or simply rewards those willing to spend more.

With voting still open, the standings could yet change. For now, Ronaldo’s 2008 season is the clear favourite, and the endless Ronaldo versus Messi debate shows no sign of fading.
