Barcelona Match Real Madrid’s La Liga Record With 5-2 Betis Win
Barcelona continued their dominant start to the 2026-27 season with a 5-2 victory over Real Betis on Saturday, October 17. The result gave the defending champions a ninth consecutive league win and equalled the Barcelona La Liga record start set by Real Madrid in 1968-69.
Hansi Flick’s side travelled to Estadio La Cartuja de Sevilla, where 66,924 spectators watched another impressive attacking display. Barcelona now have 27 points from nine matches, a perfect return, and have scored 39 goals while conceding just nine.
Yamal Strikes Early
Lamine Yamal opened the scoring in the 10th minute to give the visitors an early advantage. Real Betis hit back through Valentin Gomez in the 27th minute, briefly levelling the contest and raising hopes of an upset at home.
Barcelona regained the lead before the break, however, when Rodri scored in the 41st minute. After the interval, Gabriel Jesus, Eric Garcia and Dani Olmo added further goals, ensuring the visitors extended their flawless league run. Betis managed two goals in reply but could not stop Barcelona’s momentum.
A Historic Goal Tally
The 39 goals scored in nine matches are the second-highest total in La Liga history at this stage of a season, underlining how potent Flick’s attack has been. The balance of goals from Yamal, Rodri, Jesus, Garcia and Olmo shows the scoring burden is being shared across the squad.
Barcelona will have the chance to break Real Madrid’s long-standing record outright by winning their next league fixture. If they do, they will set a new benchmark for the best start to a La Liga campaign, adding another chapter to an already memorable season.
