Roman Abramovich tell he has not asked Chelsea to repay the £1.5bn loan
Roman Abramovich says he has not invite Chelsea for a £1.5bn loan to be repaid if the club is sold.
Roman Abramovich The Russian oligarchs put Chelsea up for sale in March and were subsequently sanctione by the British government after invading Ukraine.
They added that the loan was subject to EU sanctions and would be frozen.
But they are “still destin for the foundation” that Abramovich wants to establish. Abramovich, who was disqualify as Chelsea director in March, previously said proceeds from the sale would be donate to war victims.
But his spokesman, in a statement released by Chelsea on Thursday, said the position had not changed. And his team had “identified the senior UN officials and key global charities tasked with setting up the foundation.”
Los Angeles Dodgers co-owner Todd Bowley was selecte as the club’s prefere candidate.
However, reports earlier this week suggested concerns the deal could fall apart. Claiming Abramovich had changed the terms of the sale and demanded repayment of his £1.5bn loans to Chelsea. At first, he said he would delete it.
“Mr. Abramovich has not ask for the loan to be repaid such advice is completely wrong. As is the speculation that Mr. Abramovich raised the club’s price at the last minute,” the statement added.
The statement also said Abramovich encouraged bidders to “commit to investing in the club” as part of the process.
The application deadline is May 31, when the club’s government license expires.
