LinkedIn Cracks Down on AI Content While Pushing Its Own AI Tools

LinkedIn is taking steps to limit the spread of AI-generated content in its feed, even as the platform continues building AI tools directly into its product. LinkedIn Global Editorial VP Laura Lorenzetti announced the measures on Wednesday, outlining a push to restore authenticity across the network.

The new measures include restricting the reach of content that appears AI-generated and lacks a clear personal perspective, detecting and limiting AI-generated comments, and adding filters that let users restrict their feed to verified profiles only — helping address the growing problem of AI bot accounts.

Why LinkedIn Is Drawing the Line

According to Lorenzetti, when AI is overused at scale in an automated way, it dilutes the valuable insights that real human conversations can spark. The platform’s position is that AI should assist a person’s voice, not replace it entirely.

The Contradiction at the Core

The move is not without irony. LinkedIn has added AI assistant tools into every element of the app, including profile creation, post generation, job applications, and candidate vetting. The platform even features a prominent “Rewrite with AI” button directly inside its post composer.

This creates a clear contradiction: LinkedIn has actively lowered the barrier to AI-generated content, and is now penalising users for crossing a line it helped blur in the first place.

As big tech firms continue investing in AI tools, this conflicted approach will keep sparking mixed messaging — users will have the option to easily generate AI content, but will be advised not to. For LinkedIn, balancing authenticity with its own AI ambitions remains an unresolved challenge.
