Ronaldo Injury Scare and Rodrygo’s World Cup Dream Shattered

Two of football’s biggest names have been hit by injury blows just months before the FIFA World Cup 2026, casting a shadow over the tournament set to be held across the United States, Mexico, and Canada from June 11 to July 19.

Cristiano Ronaldo was forced off during Al-Nassr’s 3-1 victory over Al-Fayha on Saturday after sustaining a hamstring injury. The Saudi club confirmed the diagnosis and announced that the 41-year-old has begun a rehabilitation program and will be monitored daily. Al-Nassr coach Jorge Jesus offered some early reassurance, suggesting it could be muscle fatigue rather than a serious setback. Ronaldo, who holds 226 international caps, is aiming to lead Portugal at his sixth World Cup — a milestone that makes his fitness battle even more significant.

Rodrygo’s Heartbreak: ACL Ends His World Cup Hope

Brazil forward Rodrygo suffered a far more devastating blow. The Real Madrid winger tore his ACL and meniscus in his right knee during Madrid’s 1-0 defeat to Getafe on March 2, officially ending his World Cup dream. The club confirmed the diagnosis, and Rodrygo will miss the remainder of the club season as well.

A Career-Defining Setback for the Young Brazilian

In an emotional Instagram post, Rodrygo described it as one of the worst days of his life, saying he had always feared this type of injury. Despite the heartbreak, he vowed to stay strong and return. No surgery timeline or return date has been confirmed by Real Madrid or Brazil’s football federation.

Both absences leave significant gaps for their respective national teams heading into one of sport’s biggest stages.
