U-WIN initiative to streamline vaccination data in Tiruchi
The immunisation details of around 45,000 antenatal females and 51,000 babies in the Tiruchi district have been uploaded to the U-WIN database.
Comprehensive Immunisation Tracking Launched
District Health Officer V. C. Hemachand Gandhi announced that the U-WIN digital platform is being rolled out to streamline and centralize immunisation records across government and private healthcare institutions in Tiruchi district. By making registration on U-WIN mandatory, officials aim to develop a more accurate and long-term understanding of public health trends.
Widespread Implementation and Training
Currently, 600 vaccinators are operating across 2,376 vaccination session sites in the district. The platform also draws data from 152 private hospitals, ensuring broader coverage. In a significant step towards digitizing rural healthcare records, 300 village health nurses have been trained to input vaccination details using a user-friendly software application.
Integration with National Systems
Once individuals are registered on U-WIN, their immunisation details are stored securely on a cloud server and are integrated with SAFE-VAC (Surveillance and Action for Events Following Vaccination). The system supports self-registration and automatically generates follow-up appointments, enhancing convenience for patients and accountability for providers.
Targeted Diseases and Beneficiaries
The U-WIN platform is used to track 12 essential vaccinations for pregnant women and children, offering protection against a range of infectious diseases. These include:
- Tuberculosis
- Diphtheria
- Whooping cough
- Jaundice
- H-influenza pneumonia
- Meningitis
- Tetanus
- Polio
- Measles
- Rubella
- Rotavirus-induced diarrhoea
- Pneumococcal pneumonia
- Japanese encephalitis
Boosting Healthcare Efficiency
Officials working on the project say that the U-WIN database will allow the health department to collate, analyse, and act on immunisation data more efficiently. It also helps raise awareness about the benefits of timely vaccination and the value of a unified digital health infrastructure.
