Meta Expands Muse AI Agent With Mac App and Connectors

Meta is deepening its push into AI agents with the launch of Muse for Mac and a new Muse Connectors program, giving its personal agent more ways to act on users’ behalf. The announcements come less than two weeks after Meta first introduced Muse.

Muse for Mac Puts the Agent on Your Desktop

Released late last week, Meta Muse for Mac lets users connect their agent directly to their computer. According to Meta, the agent can organize a downloads folder, track down a lost file, and summarize messages and notes, all with the user’s explicit permission. Users can also let the agent read their data sources and tools, widening the range of tasks it can handle.

Meta also launched Muse Connectors, which lets developers apply to link their apps to the Muse system. Accepted apps could be listed in the Muse directory, allowing users to connect their accounts and enabling the agent to perform a wider variety of functions on their behalf.

Privacy Concerns Follow the Expansion

The broader access carries risks. Some users have reported that their Muse agent read their direct messages on Mac and suggested actions based on private conversations. Meta has clarified that Muse can only do this when a user has granted explicit permission, but the behavior may still feel intrusive and could make some users uneasy.

Trust is only part of the challenge. The tool remains somewhat technical, and many tasks Muse can automate, such as searching for products or holiday activities, are things people often enjoy doing themselves. Meta is showcasing Muse’s value with a list of supported functions, but connecting the agent to sensitive areas like personal messaging or financial transactions still looks like a hard sell.

For now, Muse’s expanded reach reflects Meta’s ambitions for consumer AI agents, though its success will likely depend on whether users feel comfortable handing over access to their data.
