Brit Awards: Holly Humberstone receive suggestions for awards for rising stars
Bree Runway, Lola Young, and Holly Humberstone were nominated for the Brits Award for New Star, recognizing those who have to watch. The award, formerly known as The Choice of Critics, was previously given to Adele, Sam Fender, and George Smith.
Runway and Humberstone were added to Sound Of’s long list of the year, with Humberstone taking second place. Young is the voice man this year’s John Lewis Christmas commercial. Winners will be announced on December 10.
The award, backed by Radio 1, recognizes a British artist who has not made an album in the top 20 or more than one single in the top 20 as of October 31 this year.
The singer and rapper introduced himself to former US First Lady Michelle Obama as a 14-year-old student. Who told him to “move on.” Taking this advice, she studied music at university. She ended up spreading a cover on her mirror – recording herself singing in front of a mirror – which garnered millions of views on social media.
The success from her 2000AND4EVA mixtape sparked the Hot Hot hit. For which she and her Sound Of roster won the BET Award for a best new international artist. Hot also earned her Mobo nominations for Best Video and Best Female Award.

“Just being there for England is something I’ve wanted to do for years, but being a rising star candidate is a dream. The 21-year-old has drawn comparisons to Billy Isle and Maggie Rodgers through torturous lo-fi lyrics. And sound, but the theme song from his first EP, Falling Asleep At The Wheel. Has been a massive hit for him having 200 million streams to date.
After finishing runner-up on this year’s Sound Of, he continued to be nominated for future star Ivor Novello and received critical acclaim in its second edition; The Walls Are Way Too Thin.
