Bengals star quarterback Joe Burrow misses the NFL opener due to appendicitis surgery
The Bengals star quarterback will miss the first week of training camp to have an appendectomy
Burrow, who was newly diagnosed with appendicitis, underwent surgery Tuesday to remove his appendix, according to NFL.com. On Wednesday, head coach Zach Taylor confirmed the success and said Burrow was expected to be released from the hospital soon.
Taylor said he wasn’t sure when QB would return to action, but Burrow would be prepared.
“The good news is he’s been in [the system] for two years,” Taylor said of Burrow, according to the outlet. “He saw it. He’s still going to have his iPad. He’s still going to follow when he’s dating. We don’t expect him to miss a step like that mentally. I’m sure he wants to get all the physical reps he can get, but he’s not going to be in it. Behind the eight ball at all based on what happened.
While Burrow is out and recovering, the Bengals will turn to Brandon Allen and Jake Browning for backup quarterbacks.
The first week of camp is often lighter to adapt players to the workload throughout the season. Burrow is expect to miss the first week but will return before the end of the campground, which ends on August 18.
