Billie Eilish has experimented with a wide range of bold hairstyles over the years, but she says one look in particular helped her feel truly herself. Speaking with British Vogue in an interview released on April 14, the Grammy- and Oscar-winning artist reflected on her most memorable hair moments — especially her striking green and black roots.

“Green and black especially felt like such a personal and career-defining look for me,” said the 23-year-old singer. “I felt so exactly who I was at that time.”

She described the era as “magical” and deeply personal, saying the unique shade became her signature.

“That shade of green was like my color for so long. I loved it so much — hair, nails, clothes. It felt really nice to have something that felt like mine.”

When asked by Nicki Minaj what she’d call the look, Eilish laughed and dubbed it “The Billie.”

Style Regrets? Not Quite

In a fun moment, British Vogue‘s head of editorial, Chioma Nnadi, asked Billie if any of her past fashion choices now make her cringe. Billie didn’t shy away from answering.

“I do have to give myself credit for always going so hard,” she said with a laugh.

“I wore like actual bouncy balls with straps on the bottom of my shoes once… But again: I committed to the bit and I regret nothing.”

Platinum Blonde and an Identity Crisis

Though Eilish stunned fans with her blonde bombshell transformation at the 2021 Met Gala, the shift wasn’t all smooth behind the scenes. In a previous interview with Rolling Stone, she admitted the change triggered an identity crisis.

While her blonde hair set off a new wave of trends, the Happier Than Ever singer confessed it didn’t feel quite like her. Her green-and-black era, however, remains a defining chapter — both in her career and in her journey of self-discovery.
