Kane Credits Gordon’s Barcelona Move for Fresh England Confidence

England captain Harry Kane believes Anthony Gordon’s summer switch to Barcelona has unlocked a new level of confidence in the winger, who is now one of the Three Lions’ most dangerous attacking threats.

Gordon scored the opening goal in England’s 2-0 win over the Czech Republic on Tuesday, taking his tally to three goals in as many international appearances. His display was about more than the scoreline, as his pace and constant runs behind the opposition defence stretched the Czech backline throughout.

Kane Sees the Barcelona Effect

Speaking after the match, Kane said the move to Barcelona had clearly helped his teammate. “The move to Barcelona has helped him,” said the England skipper, who knows the benefits of joining a elite club after leaving Tottenham for Bayern Munich in 2023.

Kane explained that playing for a club of Barcelona’s size can strengthen a player’s self-belief. “You feel like you belong on the biggest stage,” he said, adding that Gordon has carried that mindset into his performances for England.

A Big-Money Move Paying Off

Barcelona paid £69 million to sign Gordon from Newcastle before the World Cup, where the 25-year-old impressed on England’s left wing. The fee raised expectations, but the early signs suggest the winger is thriving under the pressure of representing one of Europe’s biggest clubs.

His form is also a welcome boost for Thomas Tuchel, who has been building an attack capable of causing problems in different ways. Gordon’s directness and willingness to attack space give England an option that complements Kane’s finishing and link-up play.

With Gordon playing with growing assurance and Kane leading the line, England head into their upcoming fixtures with real attacking momentum. If the winger maintains his current form, his Barcelona move may prove to be a turning point for both club and country.
