Instagram has introduced a new feature called First Draft, designed to help creators turn raw video clips into a polished Reel with minimal effort. Announced on August 25, 2026, the tool automatically stitches together the strongest moments from multiple clips into a single video, giving users an instant starting point for their content.

How First Draft Works

The process is simple: creators select the clips they want to use, and with a single tap, the app trims pauses and cuts down footage to build a rough Reel automatically. From there, users can customize the draft however they like, since every edit the tool makes can be adjusted or undone. Instagram noted that the feature handles the early, technical stages of editing so creators can move more quickly into the creative process. First Draft will be accessible through both the Reels gallery and the in-app camera, making it easy to reach mid-creation.
