Threads Tests Custom Like Buttons With Images and Animations
Threads is testing custom like buttons in select markets, giving users a new way to personalize their profiles. The feature lets people attach a custom image or animation to their posts, which then appears whenever another user taps like on their updates.
According to a screenshot of the feature, users can choose an emoji, sticker or GIF to serve as their personal like display. Threads chief Connor Hayes confirmed the test is currently limited to select users in South Korea, Brazil and Indonesia, with no word yet on a wider rollout.
One Reaction Per Profile, Not Per Post
The custom option is tied to a user’s profile rather than to individual posts. That means people cannot assign a unique reaction to each update, but the setting can still be changed over time. Users could, for example, switch to a new animation each season or to mark a major event.
Even with that limitation, the feature adds another layer of personalization to the platform and could make sharing feel more distinctive.
Potential Value for Brands and Engagement
Brands may also find uses for the tool. A company could align its like button with a new product launch or an ongoing campaign, turning a simple interaction into a small branding opportunity.
The update could also encourage more engagement across the platform. Because each user’s custom like is visible only when someone taps it, curious users may be inclined to like more posts just to see what others have chosen.
While it may look like a minor tweak, the feature has real potential to drive interaction and interest. If the test proves successful, Threads custom like buttons could become a valuable addition to the platform and a fresh way for creators and brands to stand out.
