X’s Head of Product Nikita Bier Steps Down After a Year
X is set for another leadership change, with Head of Product Nikita Bier announcing on Wednesday that he’s leaving his role after roughly a year at the company. Bier, who joined X following success building two of his own social apps, said he plans to remain involved as an advisor even as he steps back from day-to-day responsibilities.
A Public Face for X’s Growth Claims
Since joining, Bier has effectively become the platform’s main communicator, using his personal account to share updates on new features and app performance. He credited his tenure with a major overhaul of X’s core systems, including the timeline, Android app, onboarding flow and notifications, alongside nearly 30 new product launches.
However, Bier’s optimistic figures haven’t always matched X’s own disclosures. In February, an EU regulatory filing showed European usage had dropped 15% in the second half of 2025, despite Elon Musk’s claims of record engagement around the same time. Bier later clarified that a widely shared time-spent chart only reflected a narrow subset of authenticated iOS users, not the full platform.
Numbers Don’t Fully Add Up
X’s parent company reported 550 million monthly active users as of March 2026 in its SpaceX prospectus, up from 520 million in December 2025, but still short of the 600 million figure Musk cited back in 2024. The gap between public messaging and audited numbers raises questions about why Bier is departing now, and whether the app’s momentum is as strong as portrayed.
