YouTube Shares New Tips for Boosting Shorts Engagement

YouTube has published new guidance for creators looking to get more out of Shorts, its fastest-growing content format. The platform says daily Shorts views have jumped from roughly 30 billion in 2022 to around 90 billion by early 2025, underscoring why short-form video remains central to audience growth strategies.

Finding What’s Trending

Culture and Entertainment Editor Julia Lee Harter outlined several ways creators can spot momentum before it peaks. She pointed to the Remix tool for reusing audio or building on existing clips, browsing the Audio Library for rising sounds, and exploring hashtag pivot pages to see what specific communities are engaging with. Harter also suggested using Shorts templates to speed up editing and following YouTube’s official blog for ongoing trend data.

Driving Engagement and Channel Growth

Harter highlighted interactive stickers — including poll, quiz, Q&A, and Add Yours — as tools that invite direct viewer participation and can spark ideas for future content. She encouraged creators to respond to standout comments by turning them into new videos rather than simple text replies.

On growing channels overall, Harter recommended using the Related Videos link to connect Shorts with long-form content, pairing it with a clear call to action so viewers know where to click. She stressed that the linked video should immediately deliver on what the Short promised, avoiding long intros that risk losing viewer interest. Harter also encouraged creators to experiment with newer features like vertical live streams as another way to deepen audience connection.
