Meta to Launch Paid Edits Plus Video App Tier

Meta is developing a new subscription tier for its Edits video editing app, called Edits Plus. The offering will be available either as part of Meta’s broader One Business subscription bundle or as a standalone purchase, according to details shared in a recent business subscription announcement.

Building a CapCut Rival

Edits has steadily grown into a serious video editing tool since its launch, with Meta rolling out new features roughly every two weeks in its effort to compete with ByteDance’s popular CapCut app. The push toward monetization isn’t a surprise — Meta has signaled from the start that it would eventually introduce charges for premium add-ons, particularly features powered by artificial intelligence.

Instagram head Adam Mosseri addressed this directly during a Q&A session on Instagram Stories back in July, explaining that the high cost of running AI models means free access has to be capped at a certain number of daily uses. He indicated that a subscription option allowing expanded access was already in development at the time.

More Storage, More AI Access

Based on the details Meta has shared so far, an Edits Plus subscription would give users additional storage for their video projects along with broader access to the app’s AI-powered editing tools. That combination is likely aimed at retaining power users who are building larger or more frequent video projects and running up against current free-tier limits.

Meta has not yet released pricing details or clarified where the usage thresholds for free users will sit. More specifics are expected as the subscription tier moves closer to a full rollout.
