Meta Still Dominates Social Media Reach in 2026

Meta continues to hold the largest footprint across social platforms, according to the latest user snapshot for July 2026, even as newer entrants like Threads chip away at rivals such as X. Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp have each crossed the 3 billion monthly active user mark, with Instagram being the most recent to hit that milestone in September 2025.

Meta’s Combined Numbers Show a Slight Dip

While Meta no longer breaks out individual app figures, it reported a combined 3.56 billion total users across its family of apps in the first quarter of 2026 — a small decline from the prior quarter and the company’s first-ever reported drop. Even with that dip, roughly a third of the global population still logs into at least one Meta platform monthly. Messenger sits at 1.3 billion active users, while Threads has climbed to 500 million, putting it nearly level with X’s 550 million.

YouTube and Rising Platforms Close the Gap

YouTube trails just behind Meta with an estimated 2.7 billion monthly users and has seen a sharp rise in Shorts viewership. TikTok’s user base remains murky, since the company hasn’t issued official updates beyond a 2021 figure, though outside estimates put it higher. Snapchat is nearing its first billion, buoyed by strong growth in India, while Pinterest has quietly grown to 631 million users. LinkedIn and Reddit, which don’t disclose standard monthly figures, are estimated at roughly 416 million and 500,000 weekly actives respectively.

Analysts note that raw user totals matter less than where a brand’s specific audience is concentrated, but the rankings still offer a useful gauge of where attention — and ad dollars — may be headed next.
