Threads Rolls Out Auto-Post Splitting and Animated Stickers

Threads is making it easier to post more content and stand out in feeds with two new updates: automatic separation of long text into multiple posts, and animated stickers. The features reflect the platform’s continued push to boost engagement and encourage users to share more freely.

Longer Posts, Less Effort

Previously, users who wanted to share lengthy content had to either trim it down or use Threads’ text attachment option. Now, when a user pastes a block of text exceeding 500 characters on mobile, the app automatically breaks it into a series of linked posts. This removes a key friction point for creators and writers who want to share extended thoughts without manually splitting content themselves. The update is already available to all users globally.

Animated Stickers Bring Visual Flair

Threads is also testing animated stickers in select regions, allowing users to add moving, GIF-style visuals directly into their posts. Accessed by tapping blank space in the post composer and selecting “Add sticker,” these animations can even be applied to text. While they certainly help posts catch the eye mid-scroll, the feature risks feeling gimmicky if overused — pulsing animations flooding a feed could quickly become more irritating than engaging.

That said, both updates align with a broader strategy Threads has been pursuing: lowering barriers to posting while giving users more creative tools. Whether the animated stickers develop into a lasting feature or fade as a novelty remains to be seen. For now, Threads appears focused on competing with rival platforms by making every post a little more effortless — and a little more lively.
