Threads Rolls Out Auto-Post Splitting and Animated Stickers
Threads has launched two new features aimed at encouraging users to post more frequently and creatively on the platform. The updates include automatic separation of long text blocks into multiple linked posts, and animated stickers that bring movement to in-stream content.
Longer Posts, Less Effort
Previously, sharing lengthy content on Threads required either trimming it down or using the platform’s text attachment option. Now, when a user pastes text exceeding 500 characters into the post composer on mobile, Threads automatically breaks it into a series of linked posts. This removes a common friction point for users who want to share detailed thoughts without manually splitting their content. The update is currently available to all users globally.
Animated Stickers Enter the Mix
On the visual side, Threads is testing animated stickers in select regions. Users can access them by tapping blank space within the post composer and choosing “Add sticker” from the pop-up menu. These GIF-style mini-animations can be applied to both images and text, giving posts a more eye-catching appearance in the feed. The feature was first spotted by app researcher Alessandro Paluzzi back in January, and is now making its way to a limited audience.
While the animated stickers are likely to attract early enthusiasm, their long-term appeal remains to be seen. If widely adopted, the constant movement in feeds could quickly become overwhelming. However, if Threads expands the sticker library with varied and tasteful options, it could carve out a genuinely useful role in how people express themselves on the platform. Both features reflect Threads’ continued push to grow engagement and differentiate itself in a crowded social media landscape.
