Meta’s Edits App Is Coming to Desktop With an AI Production Assistant

Meta is expanding its video editing app, Edits, with a long-awaited desktop version and a new AI-powered production assistant. The announcements were made at an invite-only creator event held in Los Angeles, where select creators got an early look at what’s coming to the platform.

A Bigger Screen for Bigger Ambitions

The headline feature is a desktop version of Edits, which will give creators more space and power to develop video projects beyond the constraints of a mobile screen. For social media marketers in particular, this could be a significant upgrade — desktop access makes it far easier to incorporate Edits into broader content production workflows alongside other tools and platforms.

An AI Assistant That Thinks Like a Producer

Alongside the desktop launch, Meta is introducing an AI assistant built directly into the Edits workflow. Similar to Meta’s existing creator assistant chatbot in its creatordashboard, this tool is designed to function like an on-demand production partner. It can offer content ideas for future videos and surface performance-based tips drawn from a creator’s post analytics.

Instagram chief Adam Mosseri has indicated that future iterations of the assistant could go even further — potentially helping with direct video edits and offering explanations of data trends based on individual creator insights. For now, those capabilities remain on the roadmap, with the current build available only to a limited group of testers.

The latest Edits update also includes expanded inspiration tools drawing on trending Instagram content, new transition effects, the ability to create multiple project versions, and a new beta tab where users can test experimental features ahead of wider release. With near-weekly improvements, Edits is quickly becoming a go-to tool for video creators operating across Meta’s platforms.
